About OSITO
Osito Records released their two first albums in 2001. The record company was originally created in order to release the band Cerrato, who Osito's founder, Bjørn Torjus Hanssen (BTH), became enchanted by already in 1996. It was a joyous moment when songwriter and vocalist, Maria Cerrato, started gathering musicians in order to make live performances and finally releasing an album. "Ghost" by Cerrato was released in March 2001.
At the same time the compilation CD "Sement #2" was released in conjunction with the festival of the same name. The idea behind the festival was to represent formerly unknown artists on CD. Although the festival had a limited budget, it went surprisingly well. The feedback from the critics was superb, considering that the album contained 10 different bands with recordings made in several different venues/places.
After their two first releases, Osito evaluated the feedback they had received and decided to move ahead. This spawned their third release: the "Enter Twilight EP" by Magic Pillows (release party at Cafè Mono, Oslo, 24/02/02). Magic Pillows have made a remarkable development in their two first years, and Osito is really looking forward to seeing the continuance.
After another evaluation period, the time had come to create a web-site: www.ositorecords.com. We hope that this will help to further promote the artists already associated with Osito Records, and potentially reach as many people as possible all over the world. We are aiming to submit most of our information in both English and Norwegian, as well as in Spanish. We hope that this will serve as a functional and concise web-site, as well as a means of communication (ideas and input would be highly appreciated!!!)
WHO IS OSITO?
The advantage with little Osito is that it is only me, BTH, who selects the artists. This means that Osito as a record company can guarantee the quality of the artists selected to whoever it may concern! This will hopefully keep the record company alive and even more so. It is a known fact that even though there are several record companies, there are still a number of talented artists who neither get released nor get a record deal with the larger record companies.
Prior to establishing Osito Records, BTH assembled two compilation albums: "Betong, Spring '97" (including amongst others FSOL, Vic Chessnut, Gallon Drunk and Abbeys Adoption- now known as Madrugada) amd "Sement #1" (including St. Thomas and Hello Goodbye). BTH was also the founder of the "Sement"- festivals and did the booking for both festivals. He was also the manager for Madrugada in 1996/97, and for a while he managed St. Thomas.
Osito Records is interested in releasing music in more categories/genres than today, and we are currently in dialogue with bands from several different categories (from trip hop to avant-garde cabaret). However, it is not a coincidence that melancholic artists like Cerrato and Magic Pillows are the ones released so far. Hip hop, RnB and pure house music probably arent categories you can expect to hear from this record company. The three releases Osito have made so far as well as the artists Osito are in dialogue with have all added English lyrics to their music. There may still be releases in other languages than English as well as by artists located in other countries than Norway.
Osito will be doing their best from day one to keep their web site updated and respond to any questions, queries or requests people may have. We are very interested in establishing contacts in general, especially with distributors all over the world. Do not be afraid to take contact!
To the power of music! |
